Spiritual Counselling

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL COUNSELLING?

As human beings, throughout our lives we tend to develop a range of false ideas about ourselves.  These false ideas can cause us a great deal of suffering and pain.  Anger, frustration, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, poor relationships - the root cause of all of these is lack of self love.

Spiritual counselling has nothing to do with religion.  It does not require you to have a belief in God, or to belong to a church or a religion.  Awareness of the Universal Source that sustains and upholds all life, however you perceive that in your life, is sufficient for spiritual counselling to be an effective therapy for you.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF SPIRITUAL COUNSELLING?

The fundamental goal of spiritual counselling is to help you to discover and/or re-connect with your authentic spirituality and an awareness of your natural wholeness.  This awareness has an amazingly transformative capacity which helps you to clearly see what is blocking you in your life and to find a greater meaning in life through the clearance of your blocks.  This creates a change in you which is not just a mental concept but can be felt in every area of your life.

THE THEORY OF SPIRITUAL COUNSELLING

Spiritual counselling takes the view that there are two possible ways of viewing ourselves: the Primal Lie and the Primal Truth.

The Primal Lie states that we are separate - from our Universal Source, from our Higher Self and from others.  Feeling this way usually produces feelings of guilt, fear, lack and a sense that there is something deeply wrong with us.  We find ways of dealing with these feelings by projecting them onto other people and onto the world situation.  This can result in a lot of negativity such as blaming, feeling guilty, conflict, disharmony, and confusion and we can end up with:

  • difficult relationships

  • stress

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • struggle

  • sickness

  • pain

  • low self-esteem

  • feelings of worthlessness

On the other hand, when we are grounded in our Primal Truth we can clearly see that we are at One with the Universal Source, with our higher self and with others and this produces an awareness of Love, Peace and of our inherent innocence.  Through this awareness we can:

  • become more free and joyous

  • develop clear and loving relationships

  • achieve authenticity in our work

  • obtain better health

  • find our lives flowing in a much more creative and beautiful way

WHAT IS A SPIRITUAL COUNSELLING SESSION LIKE?

Before you arrive for your session and throughout your session, I ground myself in the knowledge of the connection of us both to the Universal Source.  This is the means by which all healing can take place.  By holding this awareness, it provides you with a safe and grounded space in which to explore, in a totally loving and accepting environment, the deep feelings that result from the sense of separation from which we all suffer.  This most often expresses itself in difficult feelings such as grief, anger, depression, inadequacy, confusion, defensiveness and stress.

Holding this awareness allows a bridge to be created between you and the power of Divine Love which allows you to

  • feel safe and to get in touch with ways of forgiving yourself and others

  • accept yourself and others, finding compassion for your own humanity

  • let go of the fear of who you really are

  • open to the power of the Divine in your life.

The sense of being empowered and at one, with themselves and others, that I have seen clients develop through a process of spiritual counselling is truly remarkable.

During the sessions, we may use some or all of the following:

  • listening from the heart

  • meditation

  • guided visualisation

  • prayer

  • ritual

  • healing

All of these have an important role, however listening from the heart, listening whilst being consciously aligned with Spirit, is both the most necessary and is often the most powerfully transformative for you.
